My most successful projects are usually presents for another. Having a deadline gives me the motivation to get it finished. These watercolors were a gift to my friend Crystal when I found out her nursery theme would be the jungle.

Comic-con 2006
Early in 2006 I decided I was attending the San Diego Comic Convention. I purchased tickets for myself, my Mom, and my best friend, arranged for a very expensive hotel, and took a week off of work. It was one of the best weeks ever. I had no clue what to expect, but I was ridiculously excited. I think the best part was watching the reality of it dawn on my Mom. She didn't understand the big point, and was expecting a bunch of little kids running around. By the end of the convention she was hustling artist (and one scared inker) for sketches and shocked by the amount of trust and camaderie people had for eachother while there. Here are some of the sketches I received from artists while at the show. You'll notice a theme.

This sketch was coerced out of an inker by my Mom. He stated it would be his first and last sketch of the convention.

I was truly amazed by how quickly and simply Cully epitomized a character he'd never drawn before.

Probably my favorite. Jason Badowen would sketch and then take ink to the sketches as a water color.

I commissioned this piece on Artist's Alley. I still need to get it framed.

Getting sketches is cool, but the writers are hilarious to talk to.

Gabe & Tycho of Penny-Arcade.com fame. I also bought a Jesus says, "Don't be a dick!" shirt there. My Mom wasn't too happy about that.

Kurt Busieck, an amazing writer, did this great Superman for me ;)
Aaaaah, comic books
I love comic books. As long as I can remember reading, I can remember comic books. I have hundreds of them and have spent thousands on them. In particular, I love strong lead female characters. My obsession with Catwoman began with the old Batman sitcom and expanded when she got her own comic series when I was in junior high. I spent every penny of my allowance to find the back issues. My Mom saw it as a passing phase, my Dad as a chance to indulge me considering I didn't ask him for much.
These are just a few sketches I found scanned on my computer. Every notebook I own has doodles in it, but I rarely sit down and put them into my scanner. I'll try to find some old stuff and get it on here.

Building a Basis
Recently I haven't done much artwork. You'd think a teacher has all summer off and they'd be able to get plenty done, but I find myself without any motivation. We only have two and a half weeks of summer left and all I have are a few sketches, one of which may turn into an actual project. With my track record though, it'll never get finished. I hope to begin some new projects, post their progress here, and maybe actually complete them. We'll see... In the meantime, I'm posting pictures of older work I've done. Some completed, some just rough sketches.
Ophelia - Done for my friend Erin. Inspired by the A Perfect Circle song, "Blue"

Defacing my own work (at work) for fun. I did the artwork for my former company's webpage, http://www.heritage-surveying.com/ . It was a lot of work, but I think it came out beautifully. Ignore the animations, those aren't mine.

Halloween Kisses - just a quick sketch that I had fun coloring in with the GIMP. I hope to take an actual computer art class one day. Right now I just fiddle with it.
